Mercury Enters Libra: Navigating Reasonable Discussions and When to Fix Them & Five Journal Prompts To Reflect On.

When Mercury enters Libra, conversations are centred on fairness, harmony, and the desire to meet in the middle. However, knowing that what starts as a reasonable discussion can quickly derail, leading to miscommunication or frustration, is crucial. Libra's natural charm can inspire cooperation, but it's important to recognise when the pursuit of balance shifts into a passive agreement that sidesteps real issues.

How Reasonable Discussions Can Go Wrong

Despite our best intentions, discussions can spiral when prioritising maintaining harmony over confronting deeper truths. Conversations that begin with mutual understanding may lose direction if one person feels unheard or if both parties engage in avoidance tactics such as changing the subject, using humour to deflect, or resorting to silence to keep the peace. Other avoidance tactics could include over-apologising or bringing up unrelated past issues. In pursuing an agreement, crucial points can be missed, leading to resentment or, worse, a lack of resolution.

Sometimes, our need to present a "reasonable" argument can cause us to abandon our true feelings to keep things neutral. This can create a disconnect where neither party feels fully seen or understood, even though the conversation seems fair on the surface.

How to Fix Them

When discussions go off course, pushing harder for resolution or withdrawing entirely is tempting. Instead, the key is empathising and acknowledging the emotional undercurrents guiding the conversation, even if they're not explicitly stated. These emotional undercurrents could be feelings of hurt, fear, or frustration that are not directly expressed but influence the tone and direction of the conversation. Asking more profound questions like, "What do I want to say?" or "What am I avoiding?" can clarify both sides. Being mindful of tone, listening without interrupting, and gently steering the discussion back to the heart of the issue can help to realign the conversation.

It's also worth recognising that some discussions can be done without immediate fixing. Giving space to process emotions and come back with a clearer mind is often more effective than trying to solve everything in one sitting. This approach fosters patience and consideration in the conversation, helping you stay calm and composed.

Should You Always Be the One to Fix It?

Not every discussion requires you to step in as the peacemaker. Sometimes, the other party must take responsibility for their part in the dialogue. Consider whether fixing the conversation is genuinely in both parties' best interest or is more about avoiding conflict. There are moments when stepping back allows the other person to reflect and contribute more constructively.

Remember, balance doesn't always mean equal effort in every situation. Sometimes, the most reasonable action is to let the conversation breathe, trusting that mutual respect and timing will bring a resolution without you carrying the entire burden.

Five Journal Prompts for Reflection:

  1. What recent conversation left me feeling misunderstood, and why?

  2. In what ways do I avoid conflict to keep the peace? How has this affected my relationships?

  3. How do I know when a discussion has shifted from reasonable to avoidant?

  4. Do I feel responsible for fixing conversations? How does this impact my emotional energy?

  5. What can I do to ensure I am fully expressing my thoughts in future discussions?

This transit encourages thoughtful, reflective communication and asks us to confront our deeper patterns in engaging with others. Balance in communication, ensuring both sides feel seen and heard, is a guiding principle. It's about finding the middle ground between expressing your own thoughts and feelings and being open to understanding the other person's perspective.
